Lava Viewing Boat Tour

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Last month, we wrote about our guest’s amazing experience hiking to see the current lava flow. Another amazing way to see lava up close and feel the heat is to take a boat tour to see the lava colliding with ocean waves.

At the end of August, we rode a catamaran with Lava Boat Tours from Isaac Hale Beach Park to the ocean entry site. On this 2.5 hour cruise we sped across the choppy waves to view the half-mile lava delta, just 100 feet from shore.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience! You can see lava dripping into the ocean and feel it exploding under the water. With every wave that washes over the lava, the flow pattern changes. The shows that you see when lava and water meet will just take your breath away (just look at these pictures from our cruise)!

If it works for your schedule, we recommend taking the sunrise or sunset tour, since the light makes the lava glow even more stunning – both in photos and in person.

For more information about these tours, visit the Lava Boat Tours website. To check the status of the current 61G lava flow, visit the Hawaii Volcano Observatory website.
